many of you followed my journey from going back to EMS from being a web designer in 2015. As many of you know that journey got side tracked with the return of my pelvic cancer in 2016. A little update and where I am going from here.
so on June 27th 2016 i went in for surgery to remove the left side of my pelvis, replace it with cadaver bone and do a hip replacement. what happened was everything went wrong, i ended up pulling everything apart, was in a coma for 5 days, had multiple infections 3 follow up procedures to correct the dislocation as well as to attempt to reduce the subsequent hip dislocation. I spent about 10 days total at the University of Minnesota and was transferred over to Fairview Riverside a sister hospital across the Mississippi river from the U of M. I would spend 8 weeks on total bed rest there, losing 80 plus pounds in the process, the last week of August I would get discharged to home, I would be there for 2 days until I would come to the conclusion I wasn’t ready to be home and back to the hospital i would go, after a brief stay at Riverside I would be transferred to Capital View Care Center where they would work me three times a day for 3 weeks until i could move around as best as I could with a dislocated hip. I went home in late September where I would get some much needed rest and dog time. Mid November I would go back to work this time in dispatch where I am not only keeping my pension active but also learning the other side of the industry as well.
On March 3 2017 I will again be going to the University of Minnesota, this time it is hoped that they will be able to reduce my dislocated hip and it will stay in place and I can get on with my recovery.
So whats next?
i want to start blogging more about ems and firearms along with how my recovery goes.
