The life of a float and system status mangement

I am currently working as an evening and overnight float, this is both a good and not so good experience, I like starting  a bit later in the day most of the time, hate working overnights, like the variety of schedule, not a fan of not knowing my hours till a few weeks out.
next week I work all overnights while this week i am done no later than 2 am. I don’t really mind the overnights compared to the off at 2 am shift, when I work till 2 am i don’t get home till almost 3 am, then its crash for a couple hours downstairs till my wife gets up and then I go upstairs to try to sleep more, while the overnight I simply wait for everyone to get up and go to work and school and then its me and the cats sleeping away the day.

The topic of system status management recently came up in my discussion circles, for those not in the EMS industry System Status Management or SSM  is when ambulance crews are moved around the service area to better respond to calls, this sounds good on paper, but the actual time savings is between 15 and 33 seconds most of the time, SSM has lead to more instances of Paramedic burn out, back injuries from sitting in a cramped ambulance all ay and recently higher instances of cancer in EMS workers; needless to say I am not a supporter of SSM.
