This week I sat at an interview for an education position here at my full time EMS agency. I The usual interview questions came up, I don’t remember what the question was but my answer boiled down to this; “i feel that we are responsible for training the next generation of EMS providers, and not the book knowledge but the practical knowledge that we have learned from senior people over the years”. I know I am the product of learning by example from some very good paramedics over the years, skills learned through the crucible of “this works and this doesn’t” and that has made me a better provider of patient care and although my career on the streets may be over, my career in teaching those skills to the next group I hope is just beginning.
