A Friend Let His Demons Win Last Night

Earlier this evening I received word that a friend took his own life last night. Losing someone is never easy, but in this case he was young, had a wife and family, and so many good things in his life. I realize that none of those things truly matter to someone who starts down the path of self destruction. His demons got the better of him, I have spent years dealing with my own demons and I know how that struggle can eat you up inside. I hope he is at peace.

This incident brings to light an issue that plagues many EMS professionals as well as law enforcement and military folks. We aren’t doing enough to help one and other. there are countless resources available to help, and countless individuals who are willing to lend a hand, but at the end of the day the ones who struggle in silence do so often thinking they don’t have anyone to reach out to. This reinforces the need for all of us to connect with our friends and family, remind them that we are here for them, and that we can always be available if they need us.
