i haz Cancer

Historically when people get admitted in to the hospital system for long term care they get a website usually through Caring bridge that lets them update their friends and families etc.

And eventually i might get one of those.  But since I am a web designer, and have the knowledge I am going to create my own.

for the ease of time I am going to copy and paste what i posted on Facebook here for you all.

Well this is always difficult to say, no one ever expects to say it, especially on social media, but since all of our friends are here this just seemed easier.

I haz the Cancer, Chondrosarcoma to be precise. The short version of the story is that it was found yesterday following an MRI, they found what appears to be a tumor on the front of my hip. Chondrosarcoma is a cancer of the cartilage and is treatable. The nerd in me is reveling in the knowledge this type of cancer is so old it’s been found in pre historic sharks.

I have no pain or masses and this was discovered by accident while they were looking at another issue.

Anyhow, I have decided that until I speak to the actual oncologist next Friday I will function like normal, and then I will deal with whatever comes. I don’t have a whole lot of answers that I know you will want to know, like stage, exact location, and malignant vs benign. I hope to get those answers at the doctors.

Obviously this is a big stressor, and I know you all want to help out, if you have questions please feel free to message me or Anj Olsen.

Things I know:
This type of tumor doesn’t respond to chemo or radiation, they have to remove it surgically.

It’s in my hip, so there will be some material removed and it will require some level if reconstruction, and bed rest.

At this time Anj and I fully intend to be at Convergence and MRF.

Also this is not going to be some sort of pity party, yup I got a tumor, yup it sucks , I fully expect my real friends to remind me that I am being a lazy slug lying there in bed on bed rest if that happens.
